Sound familiar?
The studio looks professional. The recordings don’t sound it yet.
The unnatural voice
Voices sound boomy, fizzy or processed, nothing like the people in the room.
Uneven guests
One guest is far louder than another, and every edit starts with fixing levels.
Too many effects
The onboard processing is turned up, and turning it down feels like guesswork.

A real fix
A West London podcast studio with premium gear and sub-par sound.
The problem
The studio had a RØDECaster Pro II, Shure SM7B mics and multitrack recording into Adobe Audition, but guests and owners were unhappy with the sound.
What I did
- Turned off the Depth and Sparkle exciters, which were pushed close to maximum on some channels.
- Set the same light amount of Punch on every channel, kept the EQ flat, and added a high-pass filter and a gentle noise gate.
- Saved the setup as a new Show on the RØDECaster, with a matching multitrack template in Audition.
The result
Result: a week later the owners said their first session was a success, and everyone commented on how much better it sounded.

Before you book
The questions podcast studios ask me most.
Do we need new equipment?
Not in this studio. The gear was excellent; the onboard processing was the problem.
Can you help remotely?
Often, yes, working through it with you on a remote session. This studio’s session was in person, in West London. The free Diagnosis will tell you which you need.
Will the settings stay put?
Yes. Saved as a Show on the RØDECaster, the same sound loads at the start of every session.
Takes less than 2 minutes.
